Magnesium… mineral magic

It’s February and I’ve just been on holiday to steal some winter sunshine, of course it’s a great opportunity to do some reading…my holiday reading…’The Magnesium Miracle’ and ‘The Iodine Crisis’….perfectly normal I’d say ??!!

Minerals are essential to our functioning as healthy human beings, they dance within our cells and partner each other in ways we are only beginning to understand. We (as a society) have been fairly switched on to the importance of calcium for a long time but do we realise how vitally important magnesium is….it’s arguably THE MOST (Iodine’s up there too!) important mineral for the body. It is essential for over 300 functions/processes in the body – it’s the mineral of relaxation – the more I find out about it the more I recognise the deficiency of it in people…..cramps (muscles and stomach), headaches, muscle twitches, problems with the nervous system, heart/circulatory system, in fact every system…!

I’m not saying that lack of magnesium alone is totally responsible for all those things but how often do people reach for a prescriptive pill to ease their symptoms when replenishing vital nutritional elements in our bodies is all that maybe required?

The easiest way to get a mineral like magnesium into your body is through food – for instance, green leafy vegetables contain magnesium, as do nuts and seeds, these are easy to get hold of and eat…. and don’t have the nasty side effects that many medicines or ‘pills’ have.

Real food is the medicine we were meant to use to support our bodies….of course we have robbed our soils of minerals and so now we have problem getting those nutrients from the plants that grow in those soils….the nutrients can not get into the plants if they are not in the soil! Chemically forced fruit and vegetable produce sits on the shelves in most of our shops. Home grown and organic is the way forward… and I believe supplementing our diets with whole food based supplements is essential nowadays.

I have added JuicePlus+ capsules to my diet (and my children’s) for the last 12 years  – rich in plant vitamins, minerals, trace elements and live enzymes…happy days!
